Surf Life Saving SA has partnered with key industry leaders AUSTSWIM SA and Royal Life Saving SA to deliver the biggest South Australian Aquatics Conference & Awards event yet!

The event will commence with the 2024 Aquatics Industry Awards of Excellence, which aims to celebrate the achievements and impact of respected individuals and organisations within the South Australian Aquatics Industry. Following this, a renowned line-up of keynote speakers and special presenters will provide insight into the past 12 months in the National and State Aquatics & Recreation Industries.

The Conference & Awards also provides a valuable networking opportunity and a collaborative space to discuss industry issues, water safety, drowning preventing, swimming education, and providing safe aquatic facilities in the community.

The 2024 Aquatics Industry Awards of Excellence celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations who are making an outstanding contribution to the South Australian Aquatics Industry. The event showcases the valuable work of professionals in the sector who deliver enormous benefit to our communities in promoting the benefits of water safety and education.

MEET THE GUEST SPEAKERS & PRESENTERS


Dr Richard Harris OAM

Dr Richard “Harry” Harris has worked in anaesthesia, diving, and aeromedical medicine around the world.

His passion for cave diving goes back to the 1980’s and has taken him to the corners of the globe in search of new adventures.

Harry has a professional and voluntary interest in search and rescue operations, establishing the first cave diving rescue capability in Australasia. The 2018 Thailand cave rescue was an opportunity to put this training to work.

Harry received the Star of Courage, and the Medal of the Order of Australia for this role. He was the joint 2019 Australian of the Year with his dive partner Craig Challen and is now primarily working as a speaker, author, and film maker.

He is currently serving as the Lieutenant Governor of South Australia.

Harry is an advocate for sensible risk taking in young people, encouraging youth to get off their screens and outside to build independence, resilience, and improved mental health.

 

Brooke Hanson OLY OAM

Brooke made her debut for the Australian Swimming Team at the 1994 Commonwealth Games before going on to represent Australia over 25 times at major international championships.

In 2004 Brooke fulfilled a childhood dream, when after missing two Olympic teams in 1996 and 2000, she won Olympic gold and silver medals in Athens.

She created history at the 2004 World Short Course Championships where she won a record six gold medals – five individual and the 4x100m medley relay in world record time.

The Olympic champion continues to enjoy a successful career for herself as a television personality, product ambassador and balances her professional media career with; motherhood, appearances, hosting, motivational speaking, charity events, swim clinics and her commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for all Australians.

 

Mock Court International

Mock Court International provide trainers with backgrounds as Police Prosecutors, Senior Work Cover Lawyer, Defence Lawyers, State Crime Commission Legal, Prosecutor Assisting the Coroner and owner of one of Australia’s largest risk management consultancies. Their facilitators have been hand-picked to give clients a true to life court room experience.

Mock Court International offer a unique blend of legal and practical knowledge acquired from more than 30 years coal-face professional risk management and law enforcement. They have delivered over 2500 Mock Courts in Australia and abroad to industry leaders, statutory authorities and government.

The presentation at the 2024 South Australian Aquatics Conference will consist of a simulation of an aquatic centre incident.
