Hayley Hosking

Seacliff SLSC

Hayley Hosking is a dedicated surf lifesaver with extensive experience in lifesaving operations, training, and leadership. Currently serving as Vice Captain at Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC), Hayley coordinates patrols, manages resources, and ensures smooth operations, while also leading emergency response efforts. Her role in SLSSA’s Emergency Operations Group (EOG) as a RWC operator and JRB crew member further showcases her expertise in lifesaving and emergency incident management.

Hayley is deeply committed to SLSSA’s strategic priorities, particularly "Saving Lives" and "Building Connected Communities”. She leads initiatives like Rainbow Beach Day, celebrating diversity and inclusivity, and has championed the Women in Powercraft program to support equal opportunities for women in lifesaving. She also spearheaded the installation of public-access AEDs at Seacliff Beach, improving community safety.

Her leadership extends beyond Seacliff SLSC to state level, chairing several committees and working groups, including the Youth Working Group and the Lifesaving Advisory Committee. She is also a SLSSA Lifesaving Development Camp mentor, as well as a state trainer and assessor.

Hayley has been repeatedly recognised and awarded for her efforts at state and national level, recently being named the 2024 SLSSA Surf Life Saver of the Year and 2023 SLSA Youth Surf Life Saver of the Year.


Josh Warne

Glenelg SLSC

Joshua Warne is a dedicated and passionate member of the Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club with over 15 years of experience in lifesaving and youth engagement. With over 500 patrol hours in the 2023/2024 season, Joshua has demonstrated his commitment to water safety, while also recognizing the need to engage the 20-40 age demographic and developing strategies to address this gap.

Joshua is a graduate of the Surf Life Saving Australia National Leadership College (2024), where he honed his leadership skills. Joshua's leadership extends to his roles on the SLSSA Education and Lifesaving Advisory Committees, where he actively contributes to policy development and advocates for continuous training and professional development. As a State Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue Facilitator and SLSSA Duty Officer, he supports members in lifesaving skills and manages critical incidents. He is also a key member of the Emergency Operations Group, with qualifications as an RWC Operator, JRB crew member and trainee driver, and RPAS drone operator.

Josh is a highly-respected member of the surf life saving and South Australian community, receiving the 2024 SLSSA Youth Surf Life Saver of the Year award and 2024 City of Holdfast Bay Young Citizen of the Year.


Abby Thomas

West Beach SLSC

Abby Thomas is a passionate and dedicated member of the surf lifesaving community with a lifelong commitment to education, leadership, and community service. Joining West Beach Surf Life Saving Club as a Nipper, Abby has grown into key leadership roles, including Age Manager, Youth Coordinator, Trainer, and Administrator. Over the past decade, Abby has trained over 100 members in various awards and was recognized as Trainer of the Year in 2022/23. Her involvement extends beyond the club through her leadership roles with the VACSWIM program, where she has served as Instructor-in-Charge at Semaphore and North Haven, delivering vital water safety education to hundreds of children each summer.

Professionally, Abby is a qualified primary school teacher with the Department for Education, where she specializes in creating supportive and inclusive learning environments. She was also a swimming teacher at iSwim at Immanual College for seven years, teaching children aged 6 months – 13 years old. Her strengths in communication, curriculum development, and child safeguarding seamlessly align with the values of Surf Life Saving SA.


Clancy Cvetko

Brighton SLSC

Clancy Cvetko is a dedicated surf lifesaver and professional lifeguard with a strong commitment to public safety and youth engagement within Surf Life Saving South Australia. Currently employed as a lifeguard for the Australian Lifeguard Service and YMCA SA, Clancy has extensive experience in both professional and volunteer roles, including as Patrol Captain at Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club. His work spans emergency response, public safety, and rescue operations, with a focus on mentorship and fostering youth involvement in lifesaving services.

Clancy’s passion for the Surf Lifesaving movement began in his youth as a nipper, and his dedication has only grown. He has been an active member of SLSSA’s Emergency Operations Group (EOG) since 2020, participating in key services like the Rescue Water Craft (RWC), Jet Rescue Boat (JRB), and the State Operations Centre. His efforts led to his nomination as a finalist for the DHL Australian Lifeguard of the Year award in 2023.

Clancy is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws and Criminology at Adelaide University, allowing him to bring strong leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills to his lifesaving roles.


Sam Howe

Glenelg SLSC

Sam Howe is an experienced and passionate lifesaver with a strong commitment to enhancing lifesaving operations. Samantha brings an international perspective to her position, having held active patrolling roles across Australia and the United States, including as a Professional Ocean Lifeguard for the City of Coronado Fire Department in California. Her leadership extends to coaching and mentoring, serving as the High-Performance Pool Rescue Coach for Surf Life Saving South Australia (SLSSA) and Team Manager for SA Surf League’s Sharkskin Storm team. Samantha’s efforts have been pivotal in promoting pool rescue sports, leading South Australia to achieve strong results at the Australian Pool Rescue Championships.

Professionally, Samantha’s experience spans roles in governance, policy development, and emergency response planning. As a Contracts Administrator and former Project Administrator, she has developed and implemented Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Response Plans, and stakeholder engagement strategies. Her ability to streamline processes and lead teams under pressure highlights her strong problem-solving and communication skills.


Tom Cernev

Glenelg SLSC

Thomas Cernev is an experienced and passionate member of the Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club, with a deep commitment to water safety and community service. He has been an active patrolling member since 2015, contributing over 150 hours annually, and currently serves as a Jet Boat crew member within the Emergency Operations Group. Recently, Thomas has become a Bronze Medallion Trainer, furthering his impact on youth development within Surf Life Saving South Australia.

Thomas holds a Master’s in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge, where he focused on strategic management and sustainability. His professional career as a Systems Engineer at Shoal Group includes leading complex projects and client-facing roles. Thomas’ experience also extends to strategic leadership, having served as the SA Chair of the Engineers Australia Sustainable Engineering Society, where he was responsible for setting direction and achieving goals.

Thomas is also deeply involved in global space research, including work with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources. His diverse background in strategic planning, project management, and sustainability, combined with his extensive volunteer experience, equips him to contribute effectively to the SLSSA Futures Board.


Sabrina Warwar

Brighton SLSC

Sabrina Warwar is a dedicated surf lifesaving member with a decade of experience spanning patrols, competition, and team leadership. Beginning her surf lifesaving journey in 2009, Sabrina competed in surf sports throughout high school and reignited her passion through IRB racing. She has since represented Newport Surf Club at local, state, and national levels, including selection for the NSW Interstate IRB Team at the Australian Championships. Recently relocating to Adelaide, Sabrina now supports Brighton Surf Life Saving Club’s IRB racing team and is committed to fostering community engagement and operational excellence in South Australia’s coastal operations.

Professionally, Sabrina brings over seven years of experience in public health and healthcare consulting. She has held key roles at PwC Healthcare Consulting, NPS MedicineWise, and Digivate Health Advisory, where she worked with hospitals, public health departments, and aged care providers. Sabrina specializes in governance, stakeholder engagement, project management, and program design, with expertise in co-design facilitation and data-driven analysis.

A passionate advocate for inclusivity and communication, Sabrina’s fluency in Portuguese and her experience engaging diverse communities equip her to drive positive change.


Tom McKenzie

South Port SLSC

Tom McKenzie has been a dedicated member of the South Port Surf Life Saving Club since childhood, with over 15 years of active patrolling experience. His leadership roles include Club Vice-Captain, Junior Club Captain, and volunteer instructor for VACSWIM and the Starfish Nippers program, which teaches beach safety to children with disabilities. Tom’s commitment to surf lifesaving extends to performing rescues, preventions, and first aid responses, reflecting his deep dedication to community safety.

Beyond surf lifesaving, Tom is a skilled governance professional with significant experience in government and sports administration. As a Governance and Assurance Officer at the Office for Recreation, Sport, and Racing, he leads risk and performance committees and provides governance and compliance advice to state sporting organizations and community clubs.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Business, and a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from Flinders University. His career spans roles with the Australian Taxation Office, AM Logistics, and the South Australian National Football League, where he developed expertise in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and operational leadership.

Tom’s unique combination of surf lifesaving experience and professional governance expertise enables him to make meaningful contributions to the organisations and communities he passionately serves.
