Surf Sport Series - Round 2 Preview

Round Two of the Surf Sport Series is set to kick off tomorrow morning at Chiton Rocks with SA Athletes thrashing it out to gain vital points towards the series title.

Athletes are preparing for the notorious swell a South Coast Beach brings, with many waxing up their craft.

Current Surf Ski Series Title runner up Elena Davis knows that the venue will be a major factor this weekend.

“It should be interesting to see how it plays out at Chiton as conditions are very challenging.” She said.

Miss Davis hopes to maintain consistent racing this weekend to claim the top position.

“I have my eyes set on the series title, but there is a lot of fierce competition. It is battle of the paddles around the cans.” She said.

Miss Davies will have to out paddle Current Surf Ski Series Title holder Francesca Kidd if she wishes to secure the title.

Series favourite Ben Zuill is keen to have a hit out in some swell.

“The last round was very fast paced, short, sharp and shiny. It should be another good hit out and hopefully the waves will mix it up a bit.” He said.

Mr Zuill took out the Board title and was runner up in the Surf Ski at the last event.

“Had a good first round to set up and hopefully I will hold my form throughout the series. “ He Said.

Mr Zuill knows it will be a tough to defend his board title with the likes of Matt Zuill, Ethan Rump, Jake Mckenzie and Will Schetter all out in full force to take the crown this weekend.

“It’s good to have pressure, I sort of enjoy it.” He said.

Ben is not fazed about his younger brother, and other crowd favourite, Matt Zuill who was close to taking out the board title at Seacliff.

“Matts better over long distance, he is a better swimmer but that doesn’t matter for this series. In the surf it’s a bit different, I will probably still hold him off in the Skis but he is getting closer in the boards though.” He said.

Dark horse Chris Kither is hoping to back it up this weekend in the Surf Ski Race with his surprise win at Seacliff.

“To be honest, I though Glenn Rypp had me at Seacliff, but a bit of luck went my way to take the win in round one.” He Said.

Mr Kither is part of a very competitive line up this weekend with the likes of Glenn Rypp, the Zuill Brothers and Jayden Ellis all close behind him for the Series title.

“It’s an early call to make; so many people will have a chance to take it out, so we will just have to wait and see what happens. I am looking forward to the weekend. It should be some good fast racing.” He said.

Conny Wilson Event Director said Lifesaving World Championships Adelaide 2018 is a very proud supporter of the Series and the local talent.

“We are thrilled to be supporting these athletes and their achievements through the Surf Sport Series.  The intensity and competiveness of the new format is very exciting. “She Said.

The short format high intensity competition with the addition of some swell this Saturday is set to be a challenging event for all athletes involved. Get along to Chiton Rocks this Saturday to check out all the action and maybe a little carnage.
